The National human rights commission says it recorded a total number of nineteen thousand, four hundred and seventy human rights violation cases in Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones for the month of April.
The commission called on the federal government to put in place more security measures to curb social ills in the country
The revelations are disturbing just as the figures of human rights violations across the county are rapidly growing.
Cases of human rights violations for the month of March is one thousand, five hundred and eighty while in April the figure rose to nineteen thousand, four hundred and seventy.
The senior human rights adviser to he national human rights commission, Hilary Ogbona, says child abductions top the chart as a total of four hundred and ninety one child violation cases were reported.
The cases of human rights defenders are also worrisome as in just three months about five journalists have been arrested and detained beyond constituted limits.
The executive secretary of the commission, Tony Ojukwu want policy makers to explore collaborative avenues for addressing emerging challenges.
A total of 211 killings were reported out of which 82 are attributed to bandit related, 99 kidnap cases and the killing of 13 security agents.
