Some victims of human trafficking rescued in the Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State, say unemployment, hardship and bad leadership are reasons for their illegal movement, to seek greener pastures in Libya.

The victims made this known when the police rescued 12 of them including a Person Living With Disability in Daura Local Government Area, on their way to Libya, through Niger Republic.

The victims including one Living With Disability, are between the ages of 14 and 39, and hail from Edo, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Osun and Kwara States.

For 39-year-old Adeleke Madinat from Kwara State, she is going to Libya to hustle, saying that her sister is there doing a house help job.

Madinat added that her sister gave her one Alhaji’s number to communicate with when she gets to Kano from Lagos, for onward movement to Niger Republic, on her way to Libya.

According to her, on getting to Libya, she will work for one year, free, while the money generated, will be handed over to her sister and the agent.

She also confessed to having gone outside of the country to Egypt, but it via air.

Madinat further denied knowing that going through an illegal route is a crime, saying that her sister told her the only way to get to Libya is by road.

Another rescued victim, 32-year-old Orobore Francis from Edo State, said due to hardship and family demands, he had to find his way out of the country, to make ends meet.

He appealed to both the federal and state governments, to do all things possible, to ensure the provision of jobs to the teeming youths, to reverse the trend.

The 12 victims have been handed over to the Kano Zonal Office of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking of Persons, NAPTIP, for further action.
