The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed reports claiming it sought a fresh court order to extend the remand of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, describing them as inaccurate.
In a statement, the Commission clarified that it was in court on March 17, 2026, for the hearing of an application filed by El-Rufai on March 6, seeking to overturn a remand order granted on March 5.
ICPC said its response was served on the former governor’s counsel during proceedings, after which the defence requested time to study the reply, prompting the court to adjourn the matter to March 31, 2026.

The Commission explained that the court had initially granted a 14-day remand to investigate allegations of money laundering and abuse of office, and later approved an additional 14-day extension on March 5.
It also disclosed that a previous attempt by El-Rufai’s legal team to vacate an earlier remand order issued on February 19 was dismissed by the court on March 9.
ICPC maintained that the former governor remains in its lawful custody under a valid subsisting order, in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, and that it continues to submit required progress reports.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to due process, emphasizing that all matters will be resolved in court, not in the media.
