Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has recommended Superintendent Sentome Obi, the 2024 Police Officer of the Year, for accelerated promotion following his exemplary service and outstanding integrity.
A statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi says the recommendation was made alongside that of CSP Aliyu Shaba, the 2023 award recipient, during a Force Management Team meeting in Abuja.
Both officers will also have their portraits displayed at State and Zonal Commands, the Force Headquarters, and the Nigeria Police Hall of Fame at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Obi, who heads the Financial and Cybercrime Unit at Zone 16 Command in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, had rejected a seventeen-thousand-dollar bribe during a critical investigation, an action that earned him national recognition and the IGP Integrity Award 2024.

In recognition of his outstanding integrity and professionalism, Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, presented Obi with a brand-new Toyota Corolla and a fully furnished three-bedroom bungalow at a Banquet held in his honour.
The IGP described the gesture by the Bayelsa Governor as a major milestone in promoting a culture of integrity within the Nigeria Police Force.
He said public recognition of honest officers reinforces professionalism and helps restore public trust in the police.
The statement said the move aligns with the IGP’s broader commitment to entrench ethical conduct, professionalism, and service excellence within the Force.
