IGP, Tunji Disu appoints DCP Anthony Okon Placid as new Force Public Relations Officer

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement issued Sunday in Abuja by the outgoing Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, the appointment takes immediate effect.

DCP Placid, who was born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1996 and was commissioned in August 1998.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, a Master of Arts degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, and also studied Law at the National Open University of Nigeria.

Before his appointment, he served in several strategic positions within the Force including Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State and at the Police Staff College Jos, Assistant Commissioner of Police in Operations and Intelligence, as well as Divisional Police Officer in several commands.

He has also served in international peacekeeping roles with the African Union and the United Nations Mission in Darfur, and is a graduate of the Senior Executive Course 47 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, where he was inducted as a Member of the National Institute in December 2025.
