Igueben Train Attack: Governor Obaseki visits rescued victims

Edo State Governor,  Godwin Obaseki has confirmed the rescue of twelve more victims of the Igueben train attack which happened on the seventh of January, 2023.

Speaking after a visit to the kidnapped travelers at the Police Cottage Hospital in Benin City, the Governor who ascribed the success of the rescue operation to the collaborative effort of the security agencies also registered displeasure with the Nigeria Railway Corporation for what he says is their failure to secure train stations in the country.

Exactly one week after the attack on the Igueben substation in Edo State, authorities have confirmed the rescue of twelve travelers.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dankwara, and Heads of different Security Agencies are at the Police Cottage Hospital to visit the victims who were recuperating after their ordeal.

The Commissioner of Police gave a narrative of how the abductees were rescued.

Governor Obaseki lauded the efforts of the joint security operation.

He however did not hide his disappointment with the Nigeria Railway Corporation for failing to secure train facilities across the country.

The victims were appreciative of the State Government and the Security Agencies for coming to their rescue.

Obaseki assured that his administration will continue to prioritize the wellbeing of citizens.

He used the opportunity to express his displeasure with some traditional rulers whom he accused of not adhering to the State Government’s directives not to harbor herders or strangers without the knowledge of relevant authorities.
