The Senate has tasked professional and structural construction bodies to ensure that only competent, certified, and qualified professionals, are engaged in construction projects
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan made this known while reacting to a Point of Order on the “21-storey building collapse in Ikoyi, Lagos raised by Sen. Oluremi Tinubu during plenary.
Senator Tinubu described the incidence as “a disaster of epic proportion, which cannot be overlooked
She added that in the search and rescue efforts that had since ensued, 15 survivors were rescued from the rubble and 44 persons including the owner of the building were confirmed dead.

The senate while commiserating with the people and the government of Lagos, as well as the family of those who lost their lives directed the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to work with the state government to provide necessary assistance to survivors.
The senate thereafter observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased.
