Over 50 suspects have been arrested following violent clash that erupted among some youths and hoodlums at the popular Ile Epo Market in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin in a statement confirmed the incident and explained that normalcy has been restored to the market following response by Oke- Odo Divisional Police Officer who led his men to the scene of the incident.
Aside arresting the suspects, the shanties where the hoodlums used to occupy were also destroyed by the police.
State Commissioner of Police has directed the prompt prosecution of the arrested hoodlums and warned that the Command would deal with anyone found breaching public peace.
The fight which broke out between the hoodlums was said to have started on Wednesday night and continued till Thursday with some sustaining several injuries as the hoodlums were alleged to have set some shops on fire.
It is however uncertain how many persons may have lost their lives during the incident.
