11 suspected illegal miners have been arrested by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Akwa Ibom State Command.
Addressing media in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, state commandant, Eluyemi Eluwade lamented the criminal act and its impact on the environment.
Akwa Ibom state commandant of the NSCDC, Eluyemi Eluwade said the 11 suspected illegal miners and the three impounded tipper trucks were nabbed around Afaha Ikot Osom in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA and condemned their activities.
Eluwade also called on those involved in mining activities to obtain licenses in order to operate freely.
He stated that while more sensitization would be carried out the arrested culprits will be prosecuted in court.
