Pharmacy Council of Nigeria PCN says it has shut down 581 medicine shops in Adamawa State for putting people’s lives at risk over unhealthy practices.
PCN’s Director of Enforcement, Stephen Esumobi said the illegal operators of pharmaceutical shops and unregistered patent medicine vendors have been sanctioned for breaching the laws and regulations guiding the practice.
He said the council’s findings reveal that while so many of them are not registered, those who registered operate far beyond their scope of licence.

According to Esumobi, some illegal medicine dealers however still engage in the sale of substances of abuse to members of the public, thereby aggravating the social and security challenges emanating from the illicit use of these medicines.
With the council’s discovery, residents might have been facing health risks of all kinds patronizing pharmacies and patent medicine shops whose operations are illegal or below standards as specified by the laws guiding the business.
