Government at all levels have been urged to create the enabling environment that will help reduce cases of child labour .

The advise and others formed parts of the resolutions reached at a development training workshop for media practitioners on the elimination of child labour, in Akure the ondo state capital where the media was also urged to play dominant role in the advocacy to end child labor in Nigeria.

According to recent report by the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with the international labour organization,
over 24 million Nigerian children are victims of child labour, with 14.3 million of these children engaged in hazardous work.

In ondo state for instance about 35.6% of children are victims of child Labour, a troubling statistics that the stakeholders including representative of the International Labour organization, Journalists and others are determined to address.

The facilitators believe the media should play a pivotal role in combating child labour by raising awareness, mobilizing public opinion and advocating policies that protect rights of children

One other resolution at the training workshop is that there is an urgent need for government at different levels to enact legislations such as the Labour standard bill to address child labour, just as media professionals reaffirmed commitment to effective reportage of child labor issues within their communities and beyond as parts of their contribution to the advocacy to end the menace.
