He was sent packing by 19 out of the 27 Members of the house who immediately elected Kenneth Ibe from Obowo constituency as replacement.

While all of that took place, the embattled speaker was locked outside of the Assembly complex; allowing the newly reinstated Deputy Speaker,
Amara Iwuanyanwu to preside amid tight security.

Member, Chigozie Nwaneri moved the motion of impeachment which was seconded by Uju Onwudiwe of Njaba State Constituency.

The 19 assembly members immediately elected Kennedy Ibeh of Obowo Constituency as the new Speaker.

Addressing journalists, Ibeh said the 9th Assembly of the Imo State House of Assembly had suffered so much setback under an inexperienced leadership and it was time to turn things around.

He said the former Speaker desecrated Imo parliament with the purported removal of the Deputy Speaker, describing the action as a charade and slap on the image of the House.

He promised that the House under his leadership will enact laws that will reflect the collective interest of Imo people.
