Imo State is on a weather alert after the recent flood forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET.
The State Flood and Marine Team Committee says it has been working on an action plan which includes the clearing of waterways, and the provision of shelter and relief materials to likely internally displaced persons.
The authorities have already commenced the process of mitigating any unforeseen challenges likely to occur, calling on residents of erosion-prone areas to relocate to higher grounds before the rains.
Imo is one of the 19 states predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet of being vulnerable to flooding this August.
The forecast says out of the 27 local government areas of the state are at risk of being devastated by the predicted flooding.
