Industrial Action : FCT Area Council workers down tools over unpaid salaries

Workers across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory have embarked on an indefinite strike over the non payment of their salaries by council authorities.

The state chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employee, NULGE , Abdullahi Kabi, who led the workers in a protest to the Kuje area Council headquarters says the industrial Action will continue until their demands are fully met by the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCDA.

The industrial Action by the Union started with a protest at the entrance to the Kuje area Council secretariat.

Behind the protesters carrying placards with different inscriptions is a gate under lock and key.

The inscriptions include, no salary no work, You have no legal rights to hold the area Council allocations and give the area Councils autonomy.

The situation is not different at the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, and Abaji Area Council secretariat where the workers also barricaded the entrance to the secretariat complexes.

The FCT NULGE Chairman, Abdullahi Kabi, says no going back until the authorities pay them their salaries.

The offices are deserted with business activities around the council premises also experiencing low patronage.

Among the demands by the Union is the granting of full autonomy to local government areas across Nigeria.
