The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured all political interest groups in Ondo State of its readiness to conduct a peaceful and credible Governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 16th, 2024.
Chairman of the Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who said this during the opening of the stakeholders meeting, which held in Akure, the State capital on Thursday, November 7, 2024, noted that the Commission has concluded all but two activities lined up for the conduct of the poll.
In attendance at the meeting were leaders of political parties, the candidates in the Ondo State Governorship election and other critical interest groups such as Traditional leaders, Civil Society Organizations rganisations, and Security personnel.
The parley which was at the behest of the Electoral management body was to deliberate on ways to achieve a violent free poll.
INEC Chairman, Prof Yakubu while giving insights on the preparations of the electoral body, said the security agencies have also assured of adequate security during the forthcoming election.
A representative of the Inspector General of Police, Abiodun Asabi said the Police has deployed over 22,000 personnel in collaboration with other security agencies.
The candidates and their various political party Chairmen are expected to sign a Peace pact on Friday, November 8, 2024 as part of confidence building efforts to guarantee a violent free election.
