The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner for Akwa Ibom State, Mike Igini has maintained that the commission does not recognize the former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio as a senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Igini who stated this in a chat with newsmen in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital also added that the APC did not conduct governorship primary in the state and as such has no candidate.

The INEC REC, Mike Igini said the clarification has become necessary on account of issues concerning the publication of a list of candidates which led to a protest in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital.

Igini stated that INEC does not recognize the primary that produced the former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio as APC candidate for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial district.

Igini stated that retired Deputy Inspector of Police, Udom Ekpoudom won the senatorial primary but his name was not published because the APC did not submit his name and credentials.

The REC also revealed that the APC has no candidate for the governorship election come 2023.
