INEC Opens Accreditation Portal For Media Ahead Of August 16 By-Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has opened its portal for online media accreditation to cover the forthcoming August 16 by-election in Nigeria.

INEC which said this in a statement by its Director, Voter Education and Publicity Victoria Eta-Messi stated that the portal was opened for media accreditation since Tuesday, 8th July 2025 to facilitate the participation of media organisations and journalists in the coverage of the upcoming by-elections scheduled for Saturday, 16th August 2025.

INEC says it has received only 12 applications for 91 persons seeking accreditation to cover the elections and urged interested media organisations, print, broadcast and online platforms to take advantage of the remaining window to apply for accreditation via its designated portal: https://imap.inecnigeria.org at it says the portal will remain open until 12:00 am (midnight) on Thursday, 31st July 2025, after which it will automatically shut down.

While it reiterated the vital role of the media in ensuring transparency and accountability in the electoral process, it says late applications will not be entertained under any circumstances.
