INEC releases Gov’ship and State Candidates’ final list

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has released the final list of governorship and state candidates for the 2023.

The publication of the full names of candidates for State Elections followed the political parties’ conduct of valid primaries and completion of the nomination exercise where all the emerged candidates details were uploaded to the Commission’s candidate’s nomination portal as provided by Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act.

In a statement signed by INEC’s national commissioner and chairman, information and voter education committee, Festus Okoye explained that 18 political parties had fielded 837 candidates and their running mates for the 28 Governorship elections for the 2023 elections while State Assembly elections, 10, 231 candidates are vying for 993 seats.

Okoye further stated that the list for specific constituencies have been published in each State where they are located while the comprehensive nationwide 894-page list has been uploaded to the Commission’s website.

The commissioner told Political parties to channel any observations on the list of candidates to the Commission and such must be signed by the National Chairman and Secretary of the political party.
