The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the just concluded Imo North Senatorial Bye-Election but unable to return any candidate.
Declaring the results at the INEC head office in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the returning officer, Hakeem Adigun said APC scored a total of 36,811 votes to beat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Emmanuel Okewulonu who polled 31, 903 votes.
The Commission says the decision not to declare any candidate as winner of the APC victory is due to several court orders authenticating the true candidate of the party in the Imo North Senatorial bye-election.

It could be recalled that 24 hours to the election, the Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri gave a judgement disqualifying Ifeanyi Ararume as the candidate of the APC. On the same day, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja also disqualified Frank Ibezim from contesting the election on the grounds that he has made false statements and declarations in the affidavit and documents he submitted to the APC and INEC. He presented falsified and uncertified photocopies of the West African Examination Council, WAEC certificate.
