Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has set February 21, 2026 as date for bye-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II State Constituencies of Rivers State.

Chairman of INEC’s Information, Voter Education, and Publicity Committee, Mohammed Haruna made the announcement in a Press. Statement, emphasising the Commission’s commitment to transparent and credible elections.

The vacancies in the two constituencies arose under different circumstances; Ahoada East II following the resignation of its member and Khana II due to the unfortunate passing of its representative.

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, formally notified INEC of the vacancies, activating the bye-election process.

8th–19th February, 2026 will be the period allowed for candidates to do their political campaigns.

21st February 2026 will be the Election day.

The bye-elections will coincide with the End-of-tenure Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.

Haruna reiterated the Commission’s resolve to uphold transparency and integrity, urging all political parties, candidates and stakeholders to cooperate fully with the relevant institutions to ensure a smooth and credible election process.
