INEC Urges Presidential Election Tribunal To Vary Orders Granted PDP, LP

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged the Presidential Election Petition tribunal to vary the orders granted the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi to inspect materials used for last Presidential Election.

INEC, in a motion on notice filed on March 4, is asking the court to vary the order which restrained it from tampering with materials used for the election.

The commission said it needed to reconfigure the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the next round of elections.

In the Just concluded elections held on the February 25, 2023, Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared President-elect.

A number of irregularities and deficiencies were alleged to have marred the National Assembly and Presidential Elections ranging from alleged manipulation of figures in key states to glitches at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s results viewing portal.

The People’s Democratic Party and it’s Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party with it’s Presidential candidate , Peter Obi, had approached the Court of Appeal Abuja Division in an Exparte application, urging the Court to grant their application to interrogate the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) over the conduct of the just concluded Presidential Election
