The Federal High Court Abuja has fixed the 30th of June, 2020 for Judgment in the suit filed by a former Senator representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye against the Infectious Diseases control bill currently before the National assembly.
At the resumed hearing, Counsel to Senator Melaye adopted his final address as he informs the court that some sections of the proposed bill are injurious and capable of affecting the fundamental rights of his client.
Counsel to the House of Representatives, the Attorney General of the Federation and Inspector General of Police, however, challenged the competency of the suit and the jurisdiction of the court to entertain it, as they insist that the House of Representatives are only performing their legislative duties.
Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, who presided over the matter adjourned the matter to 30th of June, 2020 for judgment.

Senator Dino Melaye had approached the court, challenging the controversial bill targeted at empowering the Nigeria Center for Disease Control and the Minister of Health in times of a global health crisis, sponsored by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The bill seeks to, among other things, make possession of health card mandatory for international travelers leaving or arriving in Nigeria, like a yellow fever card.
