The Minister of State, Works and Housing, Umar El-Yakub, has reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to infrastructural development across the country.
El-Yakub reaffirmed the commitment while speaking to newsmen in Maiduguri, after a two-day inspection of some federal road projects, executed by the Borno State Government, anticipated for reimbursement.
El-Yakub said, the infrastructural projects going on in all sectors across the country, some of which are legacy projects, are impacting positively the economy, especially through job creation.
“The projects are impacting the economy by creating jobs and empowering the people and reducing poverty, particularly in corridors where the projects were sited.”
The minister lauded the quality of work on the roads so far completed by the state government. He said his committee will write its report for reimbursement consideration and approval by Mr President. El-Yakub said the President after approval, would forward a request to the National Assembly for the reimbursement to be paid.
Roads inspected by the team are Maiduguri-Dikwa-Gamboru-Ngala Road, Maiduguri-Konduga-Bama, and Damboa-Chibok Roads.
The inter-ministerial team also visited the Borno monarch, the Shehu.
He told them that given the strategic position of Borno as a viable commercial state, it needed good roads, to facilitate national and international businesses, as it recovers from the effects of insurgency.
He gave thumbs up to the Federal Government for the improved security situation in the state, with displaced people now returning to their ancestral land.
