The opposition African Democratic Congress, ADC, has reacted to the latest Global Terrorism Index 2026, which ranks Nigeria as the fourth most terrorism-affected country in the world, describing the report as evidence of failure by the Bola Tinubu-led government to secure the nation.

In a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the report points not only to security lapses but also to a broader breakdown in governance.

He outlined a three-point strategy to tackle the crisis, including improved intelligence coordination, decentralised policing to bring security closer to communities, and a shift from reactive to preventive, intelligence-led operations

The party is urging Nigerians to take note of what it describes as a critical moment, raising questions about the priorities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress.

According to the ADC, the index confirms the reality on the ground, with terror attacks rising by 43 percent—from 120 incidents in 2024 to 171 in 2025.

The report also shows that violence is increasingly concentrated in Borno State, accounting for 67 percent of attacks and 72 percent of deaths.

Most concerning, the party says, is that civilians now make up 67 percent of those killed, underscoring the growing vulnerability of ordinary Nigerians.
