Benue

A group known as the Coalition of Sankera Elites (CSE), has disagreed with the Benue State Government over the spate of attacks and killings in the State particularly the Sankera axis which comprises of Katsina Ala, Ukum and Logo local government areas.

While the State Government says security has improved significantly the group insists that the security situation has continued to degenerate with over a thousand killed and several thousands displaced in the past 18 months.

The Coalition of Sankera elites led by Job Tiza is alarmed over the endless activities of suspected armed herders in the Sankera axis of the State insisting that over 2,000 villages in said areas have been terribly hit so far.

While the State Government through the Director General Bureau For Homeland security insists that Government has done so much to address issues of insecurity, the coalition thinks otherwise.

Using Ukum Local Government area as its case study the pressure group says since July 2023 its farming communities in about 6 of its council wards have been on the run with their homes now occupied by their aggressors.

The coalition is worried that as a predominantly agrarian society who have been under unending attacks they are now facing starvation and a worrisome food security crisis that should concern every person of goodwill.
