The Enugu State Security Council, comprising Heads of all the Security agencies in the State, have issued a stern warning to anyone planning to enforce a sit-at-home order in the State.
The Council which met at the Government House in Enugu, on Monday, emphasized that such actions would not be tolerated and violators would face severe consequences.
The meeting presided over by Governor Peter Mbah, declared that sit-at-home orders were unacceptable across all areas of Enugu State.
This warning follows a recent threat purportedly issued by Simon Ekpa, the leader of the Autopilot militia group, who called for a one-week sit-at-home across the Southeast region.
Briefing Newsmen after the closed door meeting that lasted for hours, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, Kanayo Uzuegbu said that strategic and critical decisions had been made to further strengthen the State’s security architecture, enjoining all law abiding citizens not to entertain any fear.
Earlier in the weekend, Governor Mbah had addressed the people of Enugu State and the wider region while meeting with members of the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence.
He had urged the public to disregard threats and orders from Simon Ekpa, who he described as a “Finland-based businessman, scammer, and common criminal.”
