A call has been made on the need for the Nigerian government to do a forensic stocktaking of military hardware, providing security for the rural farmers, as well as synergy between security agencies These and others were outlined as ways to end banditry and the insecurity bedeviling the nation.
These suggestions were part of the discourse by several speakers at this year’s National Day of Mourning and Remembrance For All Victims Of Violent Killings In Nigeria, held in Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria.
With hashtags, Secure Nigeria, Nigeria Mourns, Stop the Killings and Nigeria Bleeds, different youths groups from diverse Non-governmental Organisations, gathered to offer prayers for the victims and proffer solutions to the current insecurity bedevilling the nation.
According to the Chairman, Organising Team, Bashir Dauda, the day is an annual event, to remember those innocent Nigerians he termed, “fallen heroes,” as a result of insecurity and other forms of violence.

He said from January to March alone, about 1,603 Nigerians were killed, either by terrorists, bandits or other notorious elements and members of the underworld.
At the event, the Chairman, Coalition of Civil Society Organizations, Abdulrahman Abdullahi, spoke on the need for the Federal Government to secure farmers, who are victims of the attacks, or the nation will face severe food insecurity, as the farming season sets in.
Other speakers, including the Katsina State Coordinator, Human Rights Network, Izma Yamadi and Hamza Saulawa, of the Save Katsina Group, called on the Federal Government, on the need to conduct forensic stocktaking of military hardware, as well as, the youths to collaborate with the security agencies.
With this event, the youths are calling on the government at all levels, to save the country from imminent collapse, as they hope for improved security of lives and property.
