The federal government’s directive that mobile service providers switch off their signals in Zamfara state has gone into effect. As at Saturday September 4, no one in Zamfara state has been able to initiate or receive a call
This follows a directive by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, to all telecommunication companies in Zamfara State to shut down their signals.

An automated response received from the calls says “Dear customer, the number you have dialled is currently switched off, please try again later, thank you.”

The NCC’s directive also extends to neighboring states where signals from mobile stations there could provide service signals in Zamfara State
The move, according to the NCC directive is to last for a period of two weeks, “from to September 3- 17, 2021 in the first instance”.
The action is a security measure which authorities say is to “enable relevant security agencies carry out required activities towards addressing the security challenge in the state”
