The over 3,000 Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, housed at the Government Day Secondary School, Tumtum, located in Kuta, the headquarters of Shiroro Local government Area of Niger State have again called on the Federal government to do all it takes for them to return to their ancestral homes.

The IDPs, who are predominantly farmers, say they are tired of camp life and want to return to their farms to begin living their normal lives.

At the Kuta IDP camp, there are 3,180 persons made up of 1,040 women, 1,610 children and 530 men from 350 households affected who have spent 6 years since the camp was opened in 2018.

This is the second time they are making the call after the visit of the vice president, Kashim Shettima to the Gwada camp recently.

Part of the reasons for their eagerness to return home is due to the poor hygienic condition of the camp as well as inadequate treatment of preventable sicknesses.

For others, the government seems to have forgotten them and the palliatives that are always brought to them are not the solution they want.

Rather, the government should intensify the fight against insecurity, facilitate their return home and provide homes for them as the terrorists have burnt their houses during the attacks.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly member representing the area at the Senate, Sani Musa, who visited the IDPs with both food and non-food items, reassured them of their return home soon.

He also used the medium to explain that the government is winning the war against insecurity restating that the existing community policing should be given more funding than establishing state police.

For now, the 46 853 IDPs scattered across 14 camps in the state due to terrorism are only hoping and praying for the day they will return to their ancestral homes, but it lies with the government to facilitate the move.
