The Inspector General Of Police Mohammed Adamu has enumerated important facts and expected roles of the newly created Special Weapons and Tactics Team, SWAT.
In a release signed by the Deputy Commissioner Of Police and Force Public Relations Officer Frank Mba, the Inspector General revealed that no Personnel of the defunct SARS will be selected to be part of the Tactical Team.
He also insists that operations of the new team will be strictly intelligence-driven. Adamu says members of the new Tactical team will by no means embark on routine patrols.

Members of the new team are barred from indiscriminate and unlawful search of phones, laptops and any other smart devices.
Operatives of the new Tactical team must be free of any pending disciplinary matter especially those touching on misuse of firearms and abuse of human rights.
The Police Helmsman also says that the team will be mandated to strictly respond to robbery attacks, scenes of weapon-related crimes as well as special operations involving high profile criminals.
The IGP further pleads with Nigerian to give the new initiative chance to enable it achieve its mandate.
