President Bola Tinubu says investments in education will be protected.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, who delivered the president’s keynote address at the 2025 Teachers Day in Abuja, commended Kebbi, Adamawa, Kogi, Delta, and Katsina states in their investment in education and teacher development.
Issues that dominated the speeches include poor education financing, shortage of teachers, low teacher professionalism, and teachers’ welfare.
A major worry for the Nigerian Union of Teachers is the non-implementation of the 2020 teachers’ incentives approved by former president Muhammadu Buhari.

The NUT is worried that only one item has been implemented in just 22 states, and that is the 65-year retirement age.
The 2025 International Teachers Day is used by teachers to remind the government of the non non-implementation of the N70,000 national minimum wage in a number of states as well as the protection of teachers’ families against insecurity.
