Nigeria’s House of Representatives has apologised to Nigerians over the mass failure recorded in Lagos State and the South-East of the country in the recent Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB.

Chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies, Oforji Oboku, tendered the apology on behalf of the House when he led committee members to a media briefing at the National Assembly on Tuesday.

Oboku called for an independent and thorough investigation into the matter, revealing that independent findings by the committee showed that the unfortunate incident was a result of human error and negligence on the part of some JAMB staff, which could have been avoided.

According to the committee, a key measure under consideration is the deployment of independent monitors with the requisite expertise across all six geopolitical zones to ensure transparency and accountability in future Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations

The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening oversight, driving systemic reforms, and rebuilding public confidence in Nigeria’s examination bodies.
