Journalists and Civil Society Groups have been trained on better ways to report labor migration, forced labour, and fair recruitment, using the International Labour Organisation, ILO media toolkit.
The trainees, numbering thirty, were selected from various Media Houses and Civil Society Organisations in the Northern part of the country.
The National Project Coordinator, International Labour Organisation, Austine Erameh, said in the area of fair recruitment, standardised processes should be applied in the recruitment method across the labour migration circle.
He said the choice of Kano for the training, is due to the number of returnee migrant workers to the state, during the pandemic, and Kano serves as a route for most migrants in Northern Nigeria.

Participants at the event commended the International Labour Organisation for the training, as they are better informed on issues bordering forced labour and migration.
In 2020, the International Labour Organisation launched a media toolkit on forced labour and fair recruitment, to contribute to quality reportage by journalists, in the area of forced labour and recruitment.
