Artificial intelligence will not replace journalists, but journalists who embrace AI will replace those who don’t.
That was the strong submission of experts at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council Workshop on Artificial Intelligence, held in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
About one hundred Kwara-based journalists participated in the forward-looking workshop designed to equip media professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving digital era.
Experts at the session noted that while the world has evolved and Artificial Intelligence has emerged as one of the smartest and most transformative tools in modern journalism, it remains only an aid — not a substitute for human judgment.
They emphasized that AI enables journalists to work smarter, faster, and more efficiently, but final editorial decisions must always rest with humans.

The workshop, they said, comes at a crucial time for the profession.
The Chairman of the Kwara State Council of NUJ, Abdullateef Ahmed, spoke on the importance and objectives of the AI workshop.
Some participants described the workshop as timely and impactful, noting that the knowledge gained will enhance their daily professional responsibilities in today’s technology-driven media landscape.
The consensus at the workshop: Artificial Intelligence will not replace journalists — but journalists who effectively leverage AI will undoubtedly stay ahead in the profession.
