In a bid to ensure mental alertness, improve productivity and build resilience, Journalists in Nigeeia have been urged to always check and take their mental health status seriously.
The call was made during a one-day Mental Health Workshop for some Journalists in Niger State organized by Media Mentors Network in collaboration with the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism and Succeeding Against All Odds.
The Mental Health Workshop for Journalists in Niger state, themed “Resilience and Mental Wellness in Journalism”, saw the facilitators who are mental health Experts and Counsellors, taking them through how to identify mental health-related issues such as stress and depression, coping mechanisms and balancing work with family.

Journalists were also given ways to manage their mental health so they can maximize productivity at the workplace. These include building mindfulness, time management, facing fears and building resilience.
The Convener of the workshop and Creative Director of Media Mentors Network, Justina Asishana, said one of the objectives is to prepare Journalists on how to address their mental health to be able to cope with the rigours of the practice.

Some of the participants, mostly females, attested to the fact that they have to balance their mental health and family demands.
The mental health workshop drew participants from both print, electronic and Online Media.
