Judicial Commission Of Inquiry holds inaugural sitting in Minna

Traditional Rulers in Niger State have been urged to sensitize their subjects on the need to file complaints against Police brutality in their areas.

The Chairman of the Niger State Government Commission of Inquiry, Justice Ishaku Usman said this during the inaugural sitting of the commission in Minna.

The Chairman also appealed to the twenty-five Local Government Council Chairmen to assist the victims in writing memoranda, to be submitted at the commission’s secretariat.

Justice Ishaku Usman stressed the need for educated persons, Lawyers as well as student union bodies to assist those who can not write, to ease their work.

For ease of transportation of complainants, the commission has incorporated the Zonal Offices of the Ministry of Justice in Bida, Suleja, Kontagora, Lapai, New Bussa, and Kuta.

The fourteen man commission was inaugurated on the twenty third of last month.

It has four Lead Counsels.

The commission will be sitting everyday from ten in the morning, looking into cases of Police brutality, human rights abuses by the disbanded SARS, in Niger State.

It will also look into the cases of brutality and abuse of human rights, against some members of the public, while discharging their duties.
