The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, commenced their strike Monday with the Federal High Court, Court of Appeal, and FCT High Court in Maitama remaining under Lock and key
Despite Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun’s appeal to suspend the strike for negotiations, JUSUN members went ahead with the industrial action.
The strike, which began early hours June 2, 2025, resulted in the lockout preventing judges, lawyers, staff, and litigants from accessing the Court.
The Supreme Court and National Judicial Council (NJC) chapters of JUSUN have withdrawn from the strike, citing efforts by the CJN to improve worker welfare and ongoing discussions to resolve pending issues.

The Union had given the Minister of Labour and other stakeholders two weeks to resolve issues with the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation regarding statutory allocations to the judiciary.
JUSUN demands Payment of Five months wage awards, ₦70,000 national minimum wage and 25-35% salary increment.
The indefinite strike is expected to slow down the judicial process, given the already congested court dockets.
The national headquarters of JUSUN had declared a strike action on May 30, directing, its members to down tools.
