The West African Examination Council, WAEC says the confirmation by the National identity management Commission, NIMC, that its National Identity Number, NIN registration Centre is down following maintenance by one of its providers, will not affect ongoing registration of candidates for this year’s West African Senior Secondary school certificate Examination, WASSCE.
The Head of WAEC National office, Patrick Areghan , told ait.live Abulu osemuaghu exclusively via telephone that candidates yet to get their NIN to complete registration before the closing date of friday February 11 will still be accommodated.
WAEC Nigeria adds further that Such candidates who could not provide their NIN due to the collapse of NIN registration Centre at the moment, will be able to sit for the Examination, but should make the NIN available anytime before result certificates are ready.

Areghan said WAEC would not want to deny any eligible candidate the opportunity of taking the examinations, following the introduction of NIN as a requirement.
This is the first time WAEC will be introducing NIN as a registration requirement and it says it expects such teething challenges, which are already being addressed.
