Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele has pleaded not guilty to a fresh four-count charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
In the charge, the EFCC has accused Emefiele of approving the printing of N684,590,000 at the rate of N18.96 billion, alleging that the former CBN Governor broke the law with intent to harm the public during his implementation of the Naira Swap policy of the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Meanwhile, Emefiele has been granted bail to the tune of N300 million, with two sureties, who own landed properties in Maitama, Abuja. The sureties must deposit original title of land documents with the court and their passport photographs.
Emefiele is expected to also deposit his travel documents with the court and remain within jurisdiction of the court. The court also noted that Emefiele must not travel without seeking its permission.
However the court took into consideration that same documents are before a sister court and as such noted that the certified true copies of the said documents would suffice.
Emefiele is to be remanded in Kuje custodial facility if conditions of bail are not met.
