Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has revoked the long-delayed Apo-Karshi Road contract from Kakatar CE Limited and re-awarded it to a new construction firm under an emergency arrangement.
Wike announced the decision on Thursday in Abuja after inspecting several ongoing road projects, including the Karu-Customs-CBN Road, the Gishiri-Katampe link, and the Apo-Wasa carriageway.
He explained that the revocation became necessary due to what he described as the contractor’s inability to deliver, stressing that critical infrastructure should not be used to play politics. According to him, the new contractor now handling the project has the required capacity, and the road will soon be formally flagged off.
The minister also revealed that the road linking Kubwa to Bwari has been awarded, and construction work has already commenced.
During the inspection of the Karu axis, Wike addressed concerns from affected property owners whose structures have been marked for demolition. He assured them that the administration would pay adequate compensation for all verified properties.
Wike added that while emotional reactions are understandable, they cannot override the larger public interest. He said the roads under inspection are among the projects expected to be commissioned as part of activities marking the President’s third-year anniversary.
