The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has advised the Nigeria Labour Congress FCT Council to reconsider its planned protest scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2026, citing security concerns within the nation’s capital.
The FCT Police Command says while it respects the constitutional right of citizens to peaceful assembly, intelligence reports indicate that the planned protest could be infiltrated and hijacked by hostile elements.
According to the Police, these elements include the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria and other non-state actors, with the potential to disrupt public peace and security.
The Command notes that allowing the protest to proceed under such circumstances may lead to a breakdown of law and order, posing risks to residents, commuters, and ongoing lawful activities across the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Josephine Adeh, the Command appealed to the organisers to reschedule the protest to a later date in the interest of public safety.
The Police assured residents of Abuja of continued commitment to the protection of lives and property, urging citizens to cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and stability in the capital.
