Gunmen kill businessman, gang member in Benue community

Gunmen suspected to be robbers have killed a businessman, Onche Jonah, popularly known as Salco in Naka, headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area in Benue State, North-Central Nigeria

The incident, according to eyewitnesses who pleaded anonymity, occurred on Sunday morning.

An indigene of the area equally said that the robbers also shot and killed one of their gang members, Terna Yough alias Codino. Yough was reportedly arrested wearing military camouflage with two others on the Naka-Ankpa Road, last year but later freed.

The three-man gang, it was learnt has been terrorising residents of Naka town, robbing them of valuables and cash.

According to the eyewitness, the gunmen stormed the house of the deceased around 2am on Sunday after scaling the fence and shot sporadically to scare occupants who they robbed.

After the gunmen fled, residents rushed into the compound only to find the lifeless body of Jonah in his room.

They also found out that one of the robbers, Yough had been shot dead too.

It was however not clear if he was shot by his gang members or killed during the attack by occupants.

When contacted on telephone, Chairman of the Local Government, Grace Igbabon who confirmed the robbery incident disclosed that the robbers were known cultists who had been terrorising the Makurdi-Naka-Adoka Road for sometimes now.

Igbabon who further revealed that one of the robbers who was later killed by his partner in crime was a pastor’s son after he collected money from the businessman, shot and killed him.

However, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Catherine Anene said she was yet to be briefed on the incident.
