He National agency for food drug admnistration and control, NAFDAC says report circulating on the social media about the approval of paxherbal product for the treatment of symptoms associated with coronavirus is wrong and inaccurate.
In a statement signed by the director-general, professor Moji adeyeye, the agency says until a clinical study is done in a scentific manner, no herbal medicine manufacturer can claim effectiveness to treat COVID-19 associated symptoms.
The statement noted that though pax herbal applied for listing of pax herbal cugzin capsule 290mg , which was approved by NAFDAC, its disclamer is on the product label which clearly states that the claims have not been evaluated by NAFDAC.
The statement says the agency is currently processing 21 herbal medicinal products for “safe to use” or listing status.
However, no clinical study has been done yet on any of the product to prove their claims of efficacy.
