The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC says the representatives of the petitioners seeking the recall of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan have now provided their full contact addresses as provided for in the INEC guidelines
The commission had on Tuesday faulted the submission made on the senator’s recall due to the absence of verifiable addresses of the leaders of the recall process who had submitted 6 bags of documents, said to be the signatures collected from constituents. It stated that the non compliance violated Clause 2(a) of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Recall 2024.
The electoral body in a release on Wednesday said the required information has now been provided. The statement signed by Sam Olumekun, a national commissioner and chairman information and voter education committee, read “the Commission hereby confirms that the contact address of representatives of the petitioners, their telephone numbers and e-mail addresses have now been provided in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Commission dated today Wednesday 26th March 2025”.
According to INEC, it will now “begin the process of scrutinizing the list of signatures submitted by the petitioners to ascertain that the petition is signed by more than one half (over 50%) of the registered voters in the Constituency. This will be done in the coming days. The outcome, which will be made public, shall determine the next step to be taken by the Commission”.
The commission has assured that the process will be open and transparent.
