The uncertainty on whether the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP will proceed with its elective convention in Ibadan on Saturday has been laid to rest with delegates voting in favour of having election for the new national officials.
The motion was put to a voice vote and enjoyed an overwhelming affirmation by delegates. This came after Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee, NCOC and Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri presented and explained the issue before the convention delegates.
According to him, “With the absence of INEC, it is not within my prerogative to continue with this exercise. I leave the convention delegates to decide.” The Secretary of the NCOC, Senator Ben Obi eventually took over, presenting the motion before the delegates who voted that the election should continue.

The host governor, Seyi Makinde also presented a motion to ratify the election of executives at the party at the wards, local governments and states levels. It noted that the decision followed the successful conduct of congresses across the various states to elect party executives.
Makinde confirmed that the ratifications followed the final reviews by the electoral and appeal committees as well as INEC monitoring reports, which showed that the congresses were fair and peaceful and complied with party’s constitution and guidelines. Again, the motion was adopted after being seconded.
Following this, the PDP ratified and confirmed that the executive committees and structures of the party in states and geo-political zones where congresses have been concluded.
But in a major move, it announced the dissolution of PDP structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states. The dissolution affects all levels of the party in those states, including the local governments and wards.
