A former member of the House of Representatives, representing Talata Mafara/Anka Federal Constituency of Zamfara State in the 9th Assembly, Kabiru Yahaya Classic, has been shot by suspected terrorists along the Gusau-Funtua highway.
Two people have also been reportedly killed in Kucheri village, where the incident occurred.
The former federal lawmaker was said to have left Gusau on Wednesday afternoon for Kano when he ran into the terrorists operating at Kucheri, along the Gusau-Funtua highway at about 2 pm, when they opened fire on his vehicle, leaving him with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim has been rushed to hospital for medical attention.
Efforts to get the Zamfara State Police Command to confirm the incident were unsuccessful, as the Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent, Yazid Abubakar, did not respond to the calls put to him.
The Gusau-Funtua Highway has been a hotbed of banditry activities, as several commuters and residents of the villages along the highway have suffered attacks and abductions.
