A significant security presence was evident at the National Assembly on Tuesday as lawmakers resumed plenary sessions after a one-week recess.

The heightened checks were in anticipation of the possible return of suspended Kogi Central district lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who had earlier notified the Assembly of her intention to resume legislative duties.

Security operatives mounted rigorous checks at the main entrance gate, demanding identification from every staff member and visitors before allowing access into the premises.

Despite the early morning rainfall, which made movement around the complex somewhat difficult, security personnel remained firm in executing their duties, ensuring strict screening procedures were followed.

Meanwhile, the Senate has reiterated its position, warning Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to stay away from the National Assembly until a final decision is reached on her six-month suspension.
