Just in: Two abducted female varsity students regain freedom in Zamfara State

The two female students of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State, North-West Nigeria who were abducted at their off-campus hostel at Sabon Gida village in Bungudu Local Government Area have regained freedom.

The news of their release was broken in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Students Association, ZAMSSA in Federal University Gusau, Umar Abubakar.

Though the Association did not disclose whether ransom was paid or not, for the release of the abducted students of the Microbiology Department of the University.

The two abducted female students have since been reunited with their families safe and healthy after 12 days in captivity.

The statement read in part, “We rejoice most sincerely with the school management and parents of the children who had to go through the trauma of this abduction and unimaginable pain and anguish”.

The student body urged the security agencies to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators and sponsors of the inhumane and criminal act, no matter how long it takes, and make sure that the incident never happens to any student.

They called on government at all levels to enhance the security apparatus of the state through the creation of a functional synergy between the security agencies, community, and students for improvement.
