Nigeria’s House of Representatives has amended section 77 of the recently passed Electoral Act 2026 to criminalise dual membership of political parties.
The new section provides that individuals found guilty of belonging to more than one political party at the same time will face a maximum prison term of two years and a 10 million naira fine
The House considered the new amendment, and passed it for first, second and third reading.
