Nigeria’s House of Representatives(HoRs) has asked the contractor rehabilitating the Abuja-kaduna highway to return to site after the company withdrew its workers from site over fear of insecurity.
Coming under matter of urgent public importance, a lawmaker from kaduna, Datti Muhammad recounted the hardship commuters go through on daily basis as the route has become impassible.
The lawmaker noted that this situation has further compounded the insecurity on the road as it has exposed commuters to the probability of terrorists attacks.
The project which was awarded in March 2021 with a delivery date of December 2022 suffered setback as a result of the rampant incidence of banditry along that route.
The House asked the Ministry of Works to direct the contractor to immediately return to site and complete the reconstruction work.
It also called on the military to deploy personnel to secure the expressway to enable contractors complete work.
